The story of Sacacuento Mezcal starts on a ranch in Oaxaca, Mexico in 1913 with a young married couple, Emilio and Agripina Maldonado.
Emilio and Argipina were farmers, like most in the area. As part of Emilio’s work, he dabbled in making his own mezcal from wild espadine agave that grew on his land. As travelers would pass through, they would stop and taste Emilio’s mezcal.
As they sat and shared the mezcal they would tell great stories. Those who told the best stories were called “Sacacuento.”
